NEW! Spring Adult Wheel Throwing Class: Focus on Form - Specialty Vessels

Class Description:
In this 8-week class, learn to make functional vessels beyond the fundamental forms. This class will combine basic methods and techniques for wheel throwing with more advanced methods to create pots with specific purposes. Forms for single-purpose tools may include garlic graters, spoon rests, soap dishes, herb strippers, cruets, butter keepers, chip-and-dip platters, and others. This class will focus on technique, but students may also explore adding various carving, painting, and resist techniques taught in previous classes to create rich, layered, and unique surfaces. Previous experience is required. Students must be intermediate to advanced level, proficient in fundamental throwing techniques, and skilled in making bowls, cylinders, plates, and vases. Adults 18 and over.
Dates: Wednesdays, April 9th – May 28th, 6-8:30 pm
Class fee: (member): $278, (non-member): $298. Several pounds of clay and firing are included in the class fee, and additional clay and firing are available for purchase.
Required tools: A basic pottery tool kit for wheel throwing, a selection of polymer and/or wood ribs, assorted trimming tools, 2-3 12” hardboard, Medex or plastic bats. An assortment of these tools is available for purchase at the studio.
Optional tools: a bat system such as those made by StudioPro, NorthStar, or Dirty Girls.
Open Studio Membership:
Access to the studio for students enrolled in private or 8-week classes during the current session they are enrolled. Includes: 8-week full access during open studio hours and use of all equipment including wheels, slab roller, extruder, table space, as well as community tools. This membership does not include class, workshop, or clay discounts - please see the General Studio Membership. Fee: $120
