We talk a lot about scaling up our clay, as we should! However, what about scaling down? In this 4-week session, concentrate on techniques for centering, opening, pulling, and shaping smaller amounts of clay than you’re typically used to. From making and trimming pieces individually to creating several pieces off the hump, we’ll explore a variety of forms that are made with well under one pound of clay. Focusing on decorating techniques will add further interest, variety, and beauty to your pieces. With the holidays coming, this is also the perfect class for gift making! Students must have some experience with wheel throwing, including the fundamentals of centering and pulling. Adults aged 18 and over.
Dates: (4 weeks) Wednesdays, September 23rd – October 14th, 6-8:30 p.m.
Required tools:A basic pottery tool kit.
Optional tools: A bat system such as those made by StudioPro, Northstar, or Dirty Girls.
Class fee: $158 including several pounds of stoneware clay and firing. Additional clay and firing are available for purchase. Porcelain clay is also available. Please choose the porcelain clay upgrade with class option for this clay body. NEW! You may now pay for the class and available options in full or choose the bi-weekly payment plan!
