Kids Day Out!

$70.00

Do your kids like getting messy? Are you seeking a unique, fun, creative way to engage them in the arts? Bring your child or children, along with their friends or family, for a couple of hours and create a work of art with clay. We offer two learning methods to design a piece of art with raw clay.

Hand-Building. Children ages six and up can learn to make fun things, starting with raw clay! We’ll show them how a project goes from a lump of clay to a final fired piece they can use or admire! We’ll guide your group through all the steps to make a project, whether using one of four hand-building methods. Each child will also glaze their creation with their own unique color palette.

Wheel Throwing. We’ll guide children ages eight and up through all the steps to making a bowl on the potter’s wheel. From a lump of clay to a bowl they can use daily, this is a unique opportunity for children, not usually available in schools or for younger children. It’s definitely a celebration in and of itself! As with hand-building, we’ll show the kids how a project goes from a lump of clay to a final fired piece they can use! At the conclusion of the workshop, everyone can choose the glaze color for their pot.

Adults may also participate in either workshop and are included in the maximum number of participants. The workshop fee includes one finished piece per person. We will also be happy to arrange shipping of finished pieces to you. If you are local to the studio, we will arrange for you to pick up your pieces once they are ready to go home. All pieces will be finished and fired twice within 4-8 weeks from the workshop date. A minimum of four participants is required for wheel throwing or hand-building, a maximum of nine participants for wheel throwing, and twelve participants for hand-building. Minimums and maximums do not include non-participating adult chaperones.

Fees: $70 per participant, which includes instruction, all materials, supplies, finishing, and two kiln firings.
