Course Description:
Take the next step along your pottery path! Can you make a cylinder with a height you are proud of and find you’re curious about shaping? Are you interested in gaining the techniques that take your pieces to the next level beyond the fundamentals? In this 8-week course, we’ll delve into pulling cylinders taller, shaping vessels, and adding handles and spouts. Explore mug and pitcher styles, as well as functional vase forms. We’ll spend time creating curved and angled vessels, exploring function, discerning form, and discussing aesthetics. Experience the joys of creating vessels you love and pieces you’re proud to place in your cupboard, use daily, and share with others.
Course prerequisites: Ability to center, open, and pull reliably and consistently. Demonstrated ability to throw a 4-5 inch tall cylinder.
This online option is for people who have a home studio or obtain a membership at azure arts studio from January through March 2027, or potters who live at a distance with studio access at another facility.
All primary demonstrations for the first seven classes will be recorded live, edited for ease of viewing, and made available until April 9th or 12 weeks from the first week of the class. An optional live Q&A will take place on Friday, February 12th. Video recordings will not be available a la carte. A required and optional tool list will be sent out to students within one week of registration. Adults over age 18.
