Construction Materials: Make Your Own Ceramic Building

from $50.00

Description:

This October, join Christina Milliman of azure art in collaboration with Steve and Martha Heneghan in making your own ceramic building. In the morning portion of the workshop, you will learn the fundamental techniques for making the components and constructing a hand-built ceramic house or barn from fresh clay. Clay preparation and slab making techniques, cutting, and the joining of pieces to create your building will be demonstrated. Participants will be guided through the construction of one building of their choice from provided templates. These structures can be used as stand-alone decorations or as beautiful luminaries. Choose to paint accents on your building with glaze, as time allows. After the first kiln firing, the buildings will be finished with a clear glaze over white clay.

If you would like to glaze your entire building and choose your color palette, stay for the afternoon to add detail and additional color to your building.

Steve and Martha have created and developed dozens of templates, honing their skills in designing a diverse array of building styles, including houses, churches, barns, and local favorites such as the Kingfisher Tower in Cooperstown. Join us in learning about the Heneghan’s approach to creating specialized templates and comprehensive techniques for assembling structures. Perfect for ages 18+

Experience Required: Students should have a basic understanding of the various stages of clay. Experience in hand-building techniques will be helpful.

Date: Saturday, October 25, 2025

Morning session, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.: $125 per person
